The Northern Cavern

Orion4

Astronomers have been observing a vast cavern in the northern sky so large it is virtually incomprehensible. We begin with the  following quote:                                                                 “These photographs reveal the opening and interior of the cavern so stupendous that our entire solar system would be lost therein. I have watched it since the days of youth in many telescopes of many powers, but never dreamed that the central region is the mouth of a colossal cave. Pen of writer and brush of artist alike are lifeless and inert in any attempt to describe this interior; for the depth of the Orion nebula appear like torn and twisted objects and river masses of shining glass, irregular pillars and columns of stalactites in glittering splendor and stalagmites from the mighty floor. The appearance is like that of light shining and glowing behind the clear walls of ivory and pearl, studded with millions of diamonds like shining stars. There must be some reason why all this grandeur is lavished on this one spot in the heavens. The colors are a hue peculiar to the Orion and studded around the opening so that they appear as a pavement of starry sand.”

Prof. Learkin of Mt. Lowe Observatory

Could this be the “empty space” (Job 26:7).  Although the Heavens are filled with stars where ever the telescope can reach, it seems that behind the North Star there is an empty space.  For that reason it has been suggested that this could be the third heaven.

Here is an excerpt from Daily Revue written by Dr. Douglas Clark:

One of the most inspiring and thrilling of recent disclosures to astronomers is that there is a great empty space in the North in the Nebulae of the constellation Orion.

A heavenly cavern so gigantic that the mind of man cannot even comprehend and so brilliantly beautiful that words cannot adequately describe it.

What has been found, Job wrote about; “He stretcheth out the north over the empty place…” (Job 26:7)

All astronomers agree there is a huge opening over the constellation Orion which is perhaps more than 16 trillion, 740 billion miles in diameter. This opening is 90,000 times as wide as our earth’s orbital path.

However, past its size is its beauty. Its colors are unlike any here on earth.

Astronomers – although not religious, say they feel like they are in some almighty presence.

Job mentions it (Job 26:7)prophets

Isaiah spoke of it (Isa 14:13-14)

Ezekiel saw it (Ezek 1:4ff, esp vv 4, 22, 26,)

The Psalmist knew of it (Ps 48:1-2)

John saw it from Patmos (Book of Revelation)

prophets2Daniel saw it from Babylon (Ch’s 7-10)

Stephen peeked in before he was stoned (Acts 7:54-56)

The Apostle Paul saw it (II Cor 12:2-4)

Dr Clark continues, The present Heaven is normally invisible to those living on Earth. For those who have trouble accepting the reality of an unseen realm, consider the perspective of cutting-edge researchers who embrace string theory. Scientists at Yale, Princeton, and Stanford, among others, postulate that there are ten unobservable dimensions and likely an infinite number of imperceptible universes. If this is what leading scientists believe, why should anyone feel self-conscious about believing in one unobservable dimension, a realm containing angels and Heaven and Hell?

The Bible teaches that sometimes humans are allowed to see into Heaven. When Stephen was being stoned because of his faith in Christ, he gazed into Heaven: “Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. ‘Look,’ he said, ‘I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God’ “(Acts 7:55-56). Scripture tells us not that Stephen dreamed this, but that he actually saw it.

Wayne Grudem points out that Stephen “did not see mere symbols of a state of existence. It was rather that his eyes were opened to see a spiritual dimension of reality which God has hidden from us in this present age, a dimension which none the less really does exist in our space/time universe, and within which Jesus now lives in his physical resurrected body, waiting even now for a time when he will return to earth.”

It could be argued that these horses and chariots (with angelic warriors) exist beside us in our universe, but we are normally blind to them. Or they may be in a universe beside ours that opens up into ours so that angelic beings — and horses, apparently — can move between universes.

We have spoken previously about the presence of angels among us. I believe that we should never disregard the unseen spiritual world. I personally am very glad that this physical world is not all that we have to look forward to.

As enjoyable as this physical life can be, there are more important things to think about and get correct because we will leave this planet one day. Please do not take the unseen spiritual realm lightly. “For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.” (II Corinthians 4:18)
