Global Warming – Really?

global wrm5Does it seem strange to you, or maybe it’s just me, that we constantly hear how terribly hot the earth is getting and will get, even to the point that we all should be deeply concerned and that we should take drastic measures against it, yet we are passing through record low temperatures and snowfall? I mean, it is very difficult to think of a global heat crisis when 100 year old low temperatures are being smashed around the globe. Cairo, Egypt, of all places recently had their first snowfall in more than 100 years.

global wrm3If I were one of the climate change alarmists, I think I might re-think my statements and stance and do some objective investigation. But no, they simply get offended, run for cover and concoct some tale to cover their tail. And now, some in this cultic crowd are saying that the freezing temperatures are actually more evidence of global warming, while many have switched to a global cooling chant. (Go figure) “Climate change” now is the buzz word, not necessarily “global warming.”

global wrmThe big question, it would seem, is “does the science match the claims” of these prognosticators of doom? Or is there an attempt to create uncertainty for political gain? (Surely no one would ever do that.)

It’s on record that Al Gore, the global warming poster child and self-proclaimed inventor of the Internet, predicted in 2007, 2008 and 2009 that the North Pole ice cap would melt and be “ice-free” by 2013. Agreeing with him were a culmination of so-called “climate scientists” (government funded) and the United Nations, all making these claims with hysterical intensity.

Maybe something slipped past us, but 2013 is now gone and satellite data reveals that the ice caps are at record thickness, having expanded 50% over 2012 levels. In fact, sea ice levels grew at a faster pace than has ever been recorded and the experts tell us the expansion is expected for years to come. Even the polar bears like it. They are amorous, thriving and multiplying.

global wrm1Intelligent (not!) quotes from these sirens of silliness include:

. “We are ready for an unseen event that may or may not occur,” Al Gore

. “There will be no polar ice by 2060…Somewhere along that path, the polar bear drops out.” Larry Schweiger (Remember the polar bears? Also, the date has moved now, since 2013 didn’t work)

. “Climate change is the most severe problem that we are facing today, more serious even than the threat of terrorism.” David King (Hmmm…really?)

.  “The warnings about global warming have been extremely clear for a long time. We are facing a global climate crisis. It is deepening. We are entering a period of consequences.” Al Gore

. “A zebra does not change its spots” Al Gore (Just thought I’d throw this one in for fun.)

. “Global warming, along with the cutting and burning of forests and other critical habitats, is causing the loss of living species at a level comparable to the extinction event that wiped out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. That event was believed to have been caused by a giant asteroid. This time it is not an asteroid colliding with the Earth and wreaking havoc: it is us.” Al Gore (Well, nice words, where’s the proof?)

So what are the serious scientists saying; those that desire to know and report the facts?

.Will Harper, Princeton University physicist, former Director of Energy Research at the Department of Energy: “I had the privilege of being fired by Al Gore, since I refused to go along with his alarmism….I have spent a long research career studying physics that is closely related to the greenhouse effect….Fears about man-made global warming are unwarranted and are not based on good science. The earth’s climate is changing now, as it always has. There is no evidence that the changes differ in any qualitative way from those of the past.”

.Martin Keeley, geology scientist: “Global warming is indeed a scam, perpetrated by scientists with vested interests, but in need of crash courses in geology, logic and the philosophy of science.”

.Tom McElmurry, meteorologist, former tornado forecaster in Severe Weather Service: “Governmental officials are currently casting trillions down huge rat hole to solve a problem which doesn’t exist….Packs of rats wait in that [rat] hole to reap trillions coming down it to fill advocates pockets….The money we are about to spend on drastically reducing carbon dioxide will line the pockets of the environmentalists….some politicians are standing in line to fill their pockets with kick back money for large grants to the environmental experts….In case you haven’t noticed, it is an expanding profit-making industry, growing in proportion to the horror warnings by government officials and former vice-presidents.”

We could go on and on, but the point is that there are level minded scientists out there that do good science and report their findings honestly. The problem is that when a controlling body, e.g. the government, the press, the UN, etc see financial and political rewards, the facts do not count. The agenda with all its presuppositions is what counts. What is important is the goal, not the facts.

We can’t rely on the whims and aspirations of man and the uncertainties of our world to guide our lives. We can’t focus on asteroids and CO2 emissions. That’s how you become a basket case, a bundle of raw nerves. But we can rely on the Bible. It is time tested and proven to be reliable. Trust its priceless pages for your strength.

Bible4Debates will continue and who knows where it will all shake out. But I must agree with Joshua, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)
